Atlanta store clerk put in choke hold during robbery

ATLANTA — An Atlanta convenience store clerk told Channel 2 Action News a robber ambushed him at work.

In the six months he's been working at the Lakewood Food Mart on McDonough Boulevard, this store clerk says he's never felt afraid.

That changed when a man grabbed the 67-year-old victim, put him in a choke hold, slammed him to the ground and then robbed him while at work.

The entire Aug. 10 attack was caught on camera.

The clerk says he went to grab some ice and was headed back to man the register when a man casually strolled in before ambushing him.

"He touched my body, (to) take my wallet and cellphone," the victim said.

The victim says it happened so fast he couldn't remember if the suspect actually had a gun before he went threw his pockets.

The victim told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez the robber only took $125.

Detectives are hoping that someone will recognize the man, who wore a Mr. Clutch T-shirt.
