ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer shot a man in Buckhead on Wednesday.
Police said an officer approached a man on a bicycle believed to be involved in robberies in the area. When the officer tried to make an arrest, the man resisted, police said.
Channel 2’s Ryan Young was there as officers gathered evidence at the scene and outlined the chain of events.
“The officer engaged that individual. The individual did walk into a parking deck, where the officer continued to engage him,” Atlanta Maj. Darryl Tolleson said. “The suspect then pulled a weapon on the officer, pointed the weapon at the officer. The officer pulled his weapon and multiple shots were fired.”
Police said the man was hit in the chest, but his condition is unclear. No officers were hurt.
An employee at a nearby restaurant said she was arriving at work when shots rang out.
“I was pulling into work right here at Seven Lamps, and I heard gunshots over my radio. I thought, ‘There’s absolutely no way it could be that.’ (I) saw the officer’s car and a bike laying on the ground,” she said.
