Braves fulfill wish for man battling brain cancer

ATLANTA — A woman is thanking the Atlanta Braves after they went above and beyond to give her father a special night.

Amy Murchison says her father, James Rowlette, was diagnosed a week ago with stage four brain cancer.

Murchison said amid the diagnosis all her father could think about was going to a Braves game.

“All he kept talking about was that he hasn’t seen a game at the new SunTrust stadium,” she said.

Rowlette’s love for the Braves goes back decades. His daughter said he’s watched the Braves play in every stadium, even back in Milwaukee.

His family knows how much the team means to him.

Rowlette’s grandson, Trevor Dent, wrote a letter to the Braves asking if they could help the grandfather see a game.

The Braves stepped up in a big way.

Rowlette was given tickets to Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, a safe place to sit and souvenirs. He even got to meet some of the players.

“We are struggling and trying to cope with this illness as a family the best way we can. That was such a glimmer of light in such darkness we’ve had in the past week,” Murchison said.

Murchison said she can’t thank the Braves enough for what they did for her father.
