Arson, burglary suspect sought in Gwinnett County apartment fires

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County fire investigators are asking for the public’s help in catching a person they believe is responsible for burglaries and arson at an apartment complex.

Investigators have clear surveillance video of the man they are looking for from inside the laundry room at the Century Sugarloaf Apartments.

They are now hoping someone will recognize him and turn him in.

The man can be seen putting on plastic gloves before going into the laundry room. His shirt was pulled over his head to hide his identity.

He walked through the laundry room, even made a swipe at the camera, but did not appear to take anything.

“We believe he may have gained entry trying to get into the leasing office, which has a connecting door from the laundry room,” Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.

Investigators said they believe the man may also be responsible for two fires set at the complex, along with a maintenance room break-in.

In the June and August fires, the sprinkler system minimized any damage, but it could have been much worse.

Investigators are planning a meeting with residents in the near future in hopes that they may help them identify the person.
