FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Investigators believe a car that was set on fire may have sparked a fire at an abandoned building.
“We got a call this morning of a fire here, it would appear that the fire may have started from an abandoned vehicle that was on fire, spreading to the building itself,” Butler said.
The building used to be home to Eastern Elementary School, but Butler told Channel 2’s Rachel Stockman it has been abandoned for four or five years.
Butler said firefighters have worked to ensure that a nearby wooded area does not catch fire, but because the building was abandoned, the Fire Department is content to let the fire burn itself out.
Butler said investigators will look into if the car was stolen.
Public works is expected to demolish what is left of the building.
