70-year-old man killed in house fire


CARROLLTON, Ga. - A 70-year-old Carrollton man was killed in a fire that happened around 5 a.m. Saturday, the Carroll County coroner said.

Alvin Driver was found in the living room of his home on Foster Street in the western part of the city. Driver was the only one in the home at the time of the fire, which started in another part of the house and burned through the ceiling, Coroner Sammy Eady said.

Eady said Driver was a widower who lived alone. His wife died about two years ago.

The fire fatality was the first in Carroll County this year.
