16-year-old girl shot at block party

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A teenage girl is in critical condition at the hospital after being shot in the back.

The shooting took place during a large block party behind a strip of shops off North Henry Boulevard and at the entrance to Olivia Place apartments.

Police say around 11:30 p.m. there was an argument that led to someone shooting.

"It was fast. It was like they was having fun for a minute and then boom, it turned into not fun, you know what I mean?" witness Aaron Shockley said.

Investigators are still trying to sort out what happened and if more than one person was firing, but a 16-year-old girl was shot in the lower back and is in critical condition after surgery.

Police have not said if they think she was an intended target, or what the argument was about.

The shooting broke up a parking lot party with more than 100 teens gathered.

Police did arrest one person on an outstanding warrant and two others in the car they believe fired the first shot into the air.

Shockley was working inside his business at the time and was able to get to the victim.

"Crying, scared and a couple of her friends were comforting her. She said, 'I'm gonna die.' they said 'Nah, you're not going to die.'" Shockley said.

However, police say they are still looking for the suspect who shot the teenage girl.
