66 kilos of coke, $3M cash found in Douglas, Cobb drug bust

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Drug Enforcement agents and local sheriffs are calling Operation Freak Nasty a major accomplishment in getting drugs off metro Atlanta’s streets.

“We have destroyed them root and stem,” Drug Enforcement Agency Special Agent Harry S. Somers said.

Thirty-five suspects have been arrested, 25 of them in Douglas County. Agents said the head of the drug cell was Adan Macedo Rios of Marietta. He was arrested in Douglas County last week.

“There’s a big void in Douglas County, Ga. as far as drug dealers are concerned.” Sheriff Phil Miller said.

Agents have collected 66 kilos of cocaine, 6 pounds of meth and $3 million in drug money.

Operation Freak Nasty is a joint operation with the DEA, Cobb County, and Douglas County. The operation began as a routine drug buy, but it led investigators to a multimillion dollar ring that was run by Mexican drug lords.

Agents said the drugs got into metro Atlanta mainly on tractor-trailers that originated in Mexico. The trucks made stops at the state farmers market in Forest Park, where agents said the drugs were distributed as to far away as Texas, Florida and New York.

More arrest warrants are expected in the coming weeks. No court date is set for the suspects.
