ATLANTA - A lottery frenzy swept metro Atlanta, but it appears the big winner is a Florida resident.
The winning numbers drawn to claim a share of the $600 million Powerball jackpot are: 10-13-14-22-52 and the Powerball was 11.
Lottery officials said one single winning ticket was sold in Florida. At least one ticket in Georgia matched 5 numbers, a prize worth $1 million.
It’s the biggest jackpot in the multi-state game’s history, and the second largest jackpot in U.S. history, Georgia Lottery officials said Friday.
People rushed to buy their Powerball tickets up until the final hour before Saturday's drawing.
The jackpot has grown by about $236 million since Wednesday’s drawing. It has rolled over 13 times since April, lottery officials said. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 175 million, but that didn't stop several players from trying their luck.
Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach went to the Chevron station on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett to talk to players.
Business owners said ticket sales have jumped about 30 percent in the last couple days.
Powerball offers two jackpot payment options: the $600 million jackpot prize would be paid over 29 years in 30 payments; or the cash option, which is about $376 million for the winner.
Some players let the computer randomly pick their numbers while others used their birthdays. Gehlbach found one person using numbers from a fortune cookie.
Although there were several strategies, few people shared extravagant plans if they win the $600 million jackpot.
"That could go a long way with building missions, shelters and doing other things to help other people," said player Joe Fraser.
Powerball officials said it would be likely that someone would win Saturday's jackpot, with more than 80 percent of the possible combinations already bought.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Mega Millions tickets are $1 per play.
The winning Mega Millions numbers from Friday were: 11, 15, 35, 43, 49 and a Mega Ball of 41. Two winning tickets were sold in Friday’s $190 million Mega Millions drawing in New Jersey and Virginia.
Powerball drawings can be seen live Wednesday and Saturday nights on Channel 2, just before the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11.
