4-year-old falls out of window in Roswell

ROSWELL, Ga. — A 4-year-old girl is expected to be OK after falling from a third-story window at an apartment in Roswell.

The fall happened at the Orion at Roswell Village Apartments Tuesday afternoon.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik was there as police roped off the parking lot around the building to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall.

"What was taking place at the time? Was the window open or did the child open the window and fall out, or did they accidentally fall out?" said Roswell police officer Lisa Holland.

Police said the family had just moved to the complex a week ago from California. Petchenik saw officers questioning the girl's father who arrived home after the incident. The child's mother was with her at the hospital.

Doctors evaluated the girl at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite in Sandy Springs.

"She was happy. She had a cut on her foot, and a tummy ache, but she's fine," said neighbor Melissa Pugh, who helped the child when she fell.

Police have ruled nothing criminal happened and Pugh agrees.

"It is nothing more than an accident.  It's like a child climbing a three-story tree and falling out of it," she said.
