3-year-old's drowning likely a 'tragic accident'

Family members were doing CPR on the child when emergency crews arrived.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Police say the drowning a 3-year-old in a swimming pool Saturday afternoon is likely a "tragic accident."

Emergency responders were called out around 1 p.m. to a home along Waterford Drive in Cartersville where a child had been found unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing in the family's pool.

Family members were doing CPR on the little girl when emergency responders arrived at the home. They took over from there.

The child was taken to Cartersville Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The Cartersville Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.
