ATLANTA —

The Georgia Department of Transportation issued a red flag alert this weekend for traffic on the Interstate 75/85 connector through downtown Atlanta.

Three right lanes of the southbound connector will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday for work to replace a bridge joint. In addition, the Freedom Parkway ramp will be closed. Traffic for that ramp is being detoured by way of Andrew Young International Boulevard, Courtland Street and Edgewood Avenue.

"Unfortunately, the only way to get the work done is to close the three lanes and the ramp this weekend," said GDOT District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle. "Motorists need to know that travel will be very slow all weekend and the best option is to find alternate routes around the work to your destinations."

Delays are expected on Interstate 20 eastbound just outside I-285 in DeKalb County. Two of three lanes are closed for repaving.
