1 dead, 2 others arrested after chase, crash

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police tell Channel 2 Action News they have found a gun at the scene of a deadly crash on Highway 78 in DeKalb County.

Channel 2's Ryan Young watch as officers and crime scene technicians scoured the wood line along the highway, searching for clues.

DeKalb police said a stolen car traveling at a high rate of speed just after 11 a.m. Tuesday wrecked before going into the woods. One person in the car was hurt and later died. Two others fled the scene.

Interim DeKalb County Police Chief Jim Conroy told Young the car slammed into a tree and then took off.

Officers said one of the men got out of the car with a gun in his hand. Investigators said the man started walking away from the wreck.

Eventually, police took two into custody and recovered a gun and cellphone.

DeKalb police believe one of the men inside the car may be linked to at least 20 armed robberies and is believed to be wanted in connection to a killing.
