20 passengers report feeling ill on Atlanta-to-LAX flight

Authorities are trying to determine what made nearly two dozen passengers sick on a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles on Oct. 20, 2016.

LOS ANGELES — An estimated 20 passengers on a plane from Atlanta to Los Angeles Thursday afternoon reported feeling ill.

The plane in question was Spirit Airlines Flight 404.

Passengers reported a sweet smell in one section of the plane for a short time, according to Spirit Airlines officials.

The smell quickly went away and the flight continued to LAX without incident.

No passengers requested medical attention after landing. CDC officials were seen boarding the aircraft.

Spirit Airlines sent Channel 2 Action News the following statement:

"During Spirit Airlines flight 404 from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) passengers reported a sweet smell in the mid-section of the aircraft for a brief time. The flight attendants notified the pilots of the odor, but no smell was detected in other parts of the aircraft. The smell dissipated quickly and the flight continued to LAX without incident. No emergency was declared and no passengers requested medical attention after landing."
