2 officers fired after man says he was kicked, dragged through jail

ATLANTA — Two officers have been fired after a man said he was dragged through the Fulton County Jail.

Channel 2 Action News obtained video of the incident.

William Robinson said his mouth, shoulder and other body parts were severely injured when he was kicked, dragged and shocked with a Taser after making a smart remark to an officer.

"I was in handcuffs and shackles. How could I resist at all?" he said.

Robinson said he was in jail after asking a judge to revoke his probation because evening anger management classes he had to take to avoid jail time interfered with his work changing flat tires and rendering other types of roadside assistance.

"We make most of our money off of morning rush hour and and evening rush hour," he said.

Earlier this month, Robinson and a lawyer, accompanied by Sir Maejor Page of Black Lives Matter Greater Atlanta, met with the Fulton County DA's office's Public Integrity Unit.

"We knew that we had to stand for justice for this brother," Page said.

Channel 2's Mark Winne learned that as a result of the investigation, at least three Sheriff's Office employees were disciplined, and two of them, a detention officer and cadet deputy, were fired.

Records say Robinson "became non-compliant and combative towards staff."

Robinson disagrees saying, "I didn't combat anybody. No aggression at all."

A document suggests the detention officer contended he never used force against Robinson, though video revealed he did use force.

The document said: "Although there is no sufficient evidence gathered to suggest that the force applied to gain control of Robinson was excessive or unnecessary, he failed to generate the required incident and use of force."

Winne learned another detention officer was suspended one day for failing to fill out the required reports when force is used.

Records suggest both the officer and cadet deputy had problems during polygraph exams.
