ATLANTA - Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne’s trip to the Texas/Mexico border—his second in roughly a year— provides an extraordinary glimpse of the role the Georgia National Guard plays in border security by providing “eyes in the sky” for U.S. Border Patrol agent.
Winne, producer Jason Solowski and photographer LeVar James tell the story from the air and on the ground, and have filed several wsbtv.com-exclusive web extras containing raw video not seen in his fast-moving, action-packed special assignment report airing on Channel 2 Action News at 6.

Winne says he was moved by the largely untold story of individual Border Patrol officers who often do their jobs in dark and sometimes treacherously tangled Texas brush.
A veteran agent helped him tell that story Click here for a first-hand report from deep in the Texas brush.
The mission involves homeland security, including combatting drugs and guarding against terrorism, but it also involves the apprehension of thousands of undocumented immigrants.
But on occasion, our crew found out, the mission involved helping immigrants, even those who might be in the country illegally.
Near the border fence they encountered the story of a Border Patrol EMT, and they also heard of the National Guard’s role in an unusual rescue.
