Pilot, granddaughter injured in Henry County plane crash

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — The Henry County Fire Department says a plane crashed on the 900 block of Millers Mill Road in Stockbridge Sunday.

Officials say a Cessna150 plane crashed into trees while trying to land in a field near Millers Mill Road at 2:30 p.m.

A man in his 40s was transported to Grady, and his 8-year-old granddaughter was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Officials said both victims had serious injuries.

The victims were identified as 8-year-old London Buckley and her grandfather Jamie Thompson.

Family members of two people aboard say the family dog was killed in the crash.

The family said Thompson took his granddaughter out for trips all the time, and they don't know what went wrong.

Thompson's wife said she prayed for the best when she heard the plane went down.

"I said, 'God just be with them right now.' The plane was crushed," Jennifer Thompson said. %

Jennifer Thompson said her husband's main focus after the crash was to take care of London.

"He was trapped inside the plane and he was twisted because he was trying to get her out," she said.

Jamie Thompson has broken bones and was in surgery Monday afternoon.

London is now in a wheelchair with broken bones in her lower body.

Neither one remembers anything after the take off.

The family is thankful that they are alive.

"It was a miracle. Pray. Just get on your knees and pray," Jennifer Thompson said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are working to determine the cause of the crash.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account.
