1 child killed, another injured in DeKalb hit-and-run

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police are searching for a driver who ran over and killed one child and seriously injured another Saturday evening.

According police, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old were standing with their mother at the entrance to the Walmart on Pleasantdale Road and Tucker Norcross Road around 5 p.m. waiting to cross the road. The driver pulled up to the stop sign, then proceeded to turn onto Tucker Norcross Road. As he did, his vehicle ran over both of the children.

Both children were taken to Scottish Rite Hospital where the 2-year-old boy later died. The 4-year-old girl is expected to recover.

Police are now looking for the driver of the vehicle, described as a small, older model white truck with a camper on the back.

Stunned employees and patrons of the shopping center said they could not believe what happened.

“Oh my God. It's really terrible and I feel sorry for the mom, the parent. I can't believe that,” said resident Jelizabeth Rivera.
