19-year-old gets 5 years in jail after hit-and-run

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A 19-year-old Douglas County woman received a five-year sentence for a hit-and-run wreck that killed a man.

Tabitha Paige pleaded guilty to the September 2013 accident that killed Gary Latimer.  She must serve two years behind bars and the remaining three on probation.

“I am truly sorry for what I caused. There’s nothing much more I can say but, I am truly sorry,” she said.

Latimer’s family spoke during the victim impact statement.

“I was five months’ pregnant when my father was taken from me.  He will never know what it’s like to hold his granddaughter.  I was married after his death and he wasn’t able to walk me down the aisle,” said his daughter, Kattie Sikes.

Before she was placed into custody, Paige waived goodbye to friends and relatives, while Latimer’s family was escorted out a back entrance.
