18 horses killed in Oconee County barn fire

OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. — A barn fire killed more than a dozen horses in Oconee County Friday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies said their units were called to the fire on a property in the 2100 block of Union Church Road around 1:30 a.m. Eighteen horses were killed in the fire.

The state fire marshal is investigating. A representative of the Department of Agriculture is also helping in the investigation.

The property owners and the individual owners of the horses are all being cooperative and are assisting with the investigation as needed.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
