16-year-old skateboarder killed in hit-and-run

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a 16-year-old boy killed on his way to school is asking the drivers who hit him to turn themselves in to authorities.

Georgia State Patrol officials told Channel 2 Action News the crash happened about 6:40 a.m. at 1245 North Broad St. near Double Springs Church Road in Monroe.

Investigators said Jacob Little, a Monroe High School student, was on his way to school with a friend and was on a skateboard on the shoulder of Broad Street. Little lost control of the skateboard and tried to get it out of the street when he was hit by a vehicle and knocked into the opposite lane, where he was struck by another vehicle. He was knocked back into the original lane before he was hit by a third driver.

One of the three stopped at the scene, but two left, according to GSP. Investigators are still looking for the two vehicles, described as a silver Honda and a dark-colored Tahoe or Suburban. The vehicles probably have some damage, officials said.

Little's family is pleading for the drivers to come forward. Channel 2's Tony Thomas spoke to Alicia Hornbeck at the site where her brother was killed.

"We're not able to see him, so this is the closet I can come right now," Hornbeck said.

The boy's father, Randy Little, said his son loved sports and after attending an alternative school, he was excited about being at Monroe High School.

"This afternoon, he had an appointment at the doctor for a physical to try out for the baseball team," Randy Little said.

Meanwhile, the family of Jacob Little is struggling with his loss and asks anyone with information about the hit-and-run drivers to speak with the Walton County Sheriff's Office or the Georgia State Patrol in Monroe.
