14 killed in Denver movie theater shooting

AURORA, Colo. — Fourteen people are dead following a shooting at suburban Denver movie theater, Police Chief Dan Oates said.

He said 50 others were injured when a gunman opened fire early Friday at the Aurora theater. Moviegoers were there for an early screening of "The Dark Knight."

Oates said one gunman stood at the front of one of the Century 16 theaters at the Aurora Mall.

He said, "witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire."

There was no immediate word of any motive. Police said one person has been arrested and there was no evidence of any additional shooters.
