ATLANTA - Atlanta police is investigating a crash that killed a child Friday morning.
The crash happened on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Fulton Industrial Boulevard around 7 a.m. Police said a pickup turned into the side of a car, causing the car to spin out into an empty parking lot.
According to police, the child and the driver of the car was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The 12-year-old girl, identified as Symia Knight, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said fatal crashes involving children is hard even for veteran police officers.
“It is difficult. I mean, I worked in that unit for 17 years, and it is difficult. I mean, I'm getting emotional right now. It is difficult to have a child of any age,” said Kim Jones with Atlanta police.
Several lanes Hollowell Parkway were closed due to the investigation.
The driver of the pickup truck is expect to face some charges.
