Man shot, killed at InTown Suites in Lilburn

GWINNETT, Ga. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting at the InTown Suites in Lilburn.

The shooting happened at the hotel on 4142 Highway 78 Saturday.

Gwinnett County police confirms to Channel 2 that the victim, identified as Vincent Newsome, died at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Witnesses said Newsome was shot in his lower back, his hand and his stomach. He was found him laying facedown.

"He was just lying there, gasping for breath and I was trying to tell him to relax because he was trying to get up. I kept telling him, ‘Relax, relax. Everything is going to be OK,’” said one witness.

Police said Newsome got into an altercation with another person after washing a friends' Chevrolet Chevelle in the parking lot.

"He was washing his car and went upstairs and on his way back, he stopped in the breezeway and that's where he got into an altercation," said  Brian Doan with the Gwinnett County Police Department.

"We had just talked with him a few minutes before it happened," said the Chevelle's owner Willie Colbert.

"He was a friend of mine. I used to always, like if I went to the laundromat, he would be up on the third floor waving,” said friend Robert High.

An employee from the hotel's front office said they hit the panic button when the gunshot rang out.

“When I hit my panic button, within two minutes they was here, and was telling everybody to get back,” the employee said.

Police are still searching for the shooter.
