AUSTELL, Ga. - Witnesses said a security guard at a gated Cobb County apartment complex was involved in a shooting that left one person dead.

Police said multiple shots were fired in the parking lot of the Parkview Apartments on Six Flags Drive in Austell around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

One person was killed and a second was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wife of the man who was killed told Channel 2’s Rachel Stockman that her husband was fighting with a security guard who had a history of picking fights with them and trying to get them evicted.

Davine Oliver said she tried to break it up, but the guard shot her husband twice. Witnesses said the guard shot him a third time after he fell to the ground.

She identified the victim as Andre Oliver, 27. She said they had a 1-year-old son.

"I really don't know what to do. I don't. We had issues with this security guard for so long," Davine Oliver said.

Other residents told Stockman they also had trouble with the security guard harassing them.

Another witness also described what happened.

“It was a hand fight. I guess the security guard was losing the fight, or whatever,” the witness said.  “The security guard walked pp to them and started shooting, just like that.  Just plain as day.”

Police sources said they do not plan to charge the security guard because he may have acted in self-defense. A grand jury will most likely review the case, to determine if any charges are warranted.

Jacoby Adams, 19, was struck in the leg by a stray bullet during the altercation. He was briefly hospitalized for treatment and released Wednesday morning.
