1 killed in I-285 crash

ATLANTA — One driver was killed in a crash Sunday night that blocked Interstate 285.

Southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down at Campbellton Road from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m.

Investigators said a sedan left the roadway, hit the guardrail and then swerved back into traffic and was hit by a pickup truck.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene and a passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said a second accident involved a tractor-trailer that tried to avoid the first crash and ended up in a ditch. The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Atlanta police have not charged anyone in the crash, but said that could change as the investigation progresses.

The crashes were cleaned up before the morning commute.
