1 killed in crash with school bus

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — One person died in a collision with a DeKalb County school bus Thursday morning.

DeKalb County Schools said one female student was on the bus en route to Oakview Elementary School. The student and the driver were taken to the hospital for observation but they are expected to be OK.

Police said the driver of the SUV involved in the crash was killed.

DeKalb County Schools said it appears that a black SUV struck the back of the bus on Panthersville Road at Oakvale Road.

"According to witness the driver of that black SUV was driving southbound on Panthersville at a high rate of speed when he lost control and collided with the rear of that school bus," Mekka Parish of the DeKalb County Police Department said.

Police have not identified the driver pending next of kin notification.
