BUFORD, Ga. - Investigators said an SUV possibly trying to catch up to a funeral possession may have caused a deadly wreck in Buford.
It happened shortly before 4 p.m. Friday along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at South Waterworks Road.
Police said an off-duty officer who was leading the procession stopped traffic at the intersection to let the procession through.
After all the cars had passed, officers said an SUV ran a red light and was hit by a pickup truck. The passenger of that SUV, an elderly woman, was killed in the wreck, according to police.
The driver of the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
Officers continue to investigate the deadly wreck. Police said charges will not be filed until the accident investigation unit's investigation is complete.
