LOCUST GROVE, Ga. - One person was killed in an overnight fire in Henry County.
The fire department said it was called to a home on Rose Lane, east of downtown Locust Grove, around 11 p.m. Thursday.
The home was engulfed with flames, preventing firefighters from entering the structure when they arrived.
Firefighters found the body of a resident in what was left of the home. The victim has not been identified.
Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
"On behalf of Henry County Fire Department, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” stated Capt. Sabrina Puckett.
Firefighters said they believed the fires started in the front room.
"That's all under investigation, so we don't really have a cause and origin. It appears to have started in the front room," Puckett said.
The coroner will positively identify the victim, but it's believed it is the woman who lived at the home. She is believed in her late 50's and a neighbor said the home had been in her family for many years.
