1 in custody after officer-involved shooting

VILLA RICA, Ga. — Villa Rica police told Channel 2 Action News that a man has been taken into custody after firing on an officer, running on foot and then causing a brief standoff Friday night.

Investigators said they were called out the intersection of Oakwood Place and Ashbury Drive at about 8 p.m. Friday for a shots fired call.

Police said they saw two men standing next to a car when they arrived at the scene and then noticed someone in the wood line nearby.

The officer asked the man to identify himself and to put his hands in the air. That's when investigators said the man produced a gun and pointed it at officers.

Police said officers shot at the man, who then took off running in the woods.

Officers were able to track the man to a nearby neighborhood where police ended up in a brief standoff with the man.

Eventually the man gave himself up without incident. No one was injured in the incident.

Villa Rica police said charges were expected to be filed in the incident.
