New Douglas County Fire and EMS Chief Roderick Jolivette came up with a simple idea with the hope of making a child’s day. His plan, collect as many teddy bears from county residents as he possibly can and ship them to kids in Austin, Texas who may be traumatized after the crazy winter storm that left many without power or resources.

The drive began Monday, Feb. 22 and will continue through Mar. 8. The county is asking any residents or business owners willing to donate a small, new stuffed teddy bear to come drop them off at any of their ten fire stations or at fire headquarters in Douglasville.

Those willing to help can drop the bears in a contact-less tote bag sitting outside each of the locations. The county says drop off times are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and at headquarters from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“I’m energized by the outpouring of support and interest so far on this project that was kicked off on Monday, February 22. I hope and pray we can have all the color tote bags at all ten of our fire stations completely filled by the end of the donation drive,” said Chief Jolivette.
