Local dog sets Guinness record

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Atlanta area is now home to a new Guinness Book of World Records record-holder.

Norman the dog set the record Friday morning after riding a scooter unassisted for 30 meters. Norman had to cover the distance in less than 30 seconds. The French sheepdog did it in just under 20 seconds.

This isn't Norman's first brush with fame. The dog is the star of the Hallmark and Animal Planet show "Who Let the Dogs Out?" and has appeared on "Good Morning America," "The Late Show With David Letterman" and numerous other national TV programs.

About 100 people were at All Tournament Players Park to cheer Norman on.

Owner Karen Cobb said that Norman is naturally curious and wants to do everything that kids do. When Norman saw some kids riding a scooter, he wanted to try, too. And the rest, is Guinness Book of World Records history.

The event helped to raise money for Road Trip Home, a group that rescues animals from high-kill shelters and relocates them to no-kill shelters.

Norman, who will celebrate his fourth birthday on Sunday, posed for photos after the record-breaking performance and then rode a bike around the gym.

Here's a day in the life of Norman.
