Lawrenceville man seals $250K prize in Lilburn

ATLANTA — One Lawrenceville man is celebrating a quarter-million dollar win from the Georgia Lottery with a ticket purchased in Lilburn. Matthew Salako, 68, matched the first five numbers from the Aug. 20 Mega Millions drawing, winning a $250,000 prize.

Lilburn International Farmers Market, 4805 Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Salako claimed his prize Thursday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

“I called the (Georgia Lottery Player Information) hot line, and I went to the gas station,” he said. “I am very happy.”

Retired three years, Salako and his wife, Taibat, have three adult children and three grandchildren.

“We have a lot of plans,” he shared. “For now, we’re going to sit down. But my wife and I are going to do something.”

Winning numbers from the Aug. 20 Mega Millions drawing were: 13-28-35-38-41 and the Mega Ball was 33.

Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot drawing is at an estimated $60 million to a single annuity winner.

Tickets are $1 per play. Players can add the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot prize winnings.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
