Robber cries after hotel hold-up

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police gave Channel 2 Action News surveillance video of a man robbing a female clerk at the Days Inn on Northlake Parkway at gunpoint.

Investigators say the man walked into the hotel with a silver and black handgun with an extended magazine, and walked directly behind the counter to approach the female clerk who was working alone.

"(He) went into the office, grabbed her gun drawn and took her straight over to the cash drawer," said Detective P.A. Wright, with the commercial robbery unit.

The video shows the man grabbing stacks of cash from the register and, at one point, he looks directly into the camera.

Wright told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri the man told the clerk he would use the gun if she didn't give him keys to the safe and access to the video camera, but the clerk told him she didn't know how to access them.

"He threatened her and said, 'Hey, if you don't I'll shoot you,'" Wright said. "But she was like, 'I still don't know how to work it.' At that point he was so frustrated, he left crying."

The clerk told investigators the man left in tears, which was visible on the video as he left the business with his hands covering his face.

Witnesses told police the man was driving a black Oldsmobile Bravada.
