Gunmen sought after fatal drive-by shooting

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga.,None — The family of a man fatally shot in a late-night drive-by shooting is speaking out.

Witnesses told DeKalb county police that the shooters opened fire on him from a car on Lake Watch Drive in Stone Mountain Friday night.

Witnesses told Channel 2's Sophia Choi at least six shots were fired at the victim.

On Saturday afternoon, chips in the pavement from the bullets could be seen.

Neighbors showed Choi where another bullet went through a house and nearly killed some children.

"You hear all this thing, all night. But you would never think … it's not right," Michelle Jackson, the victim great aunt, said.

Police said they found Keith Vaughn, 20, dead from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the middle of the street.

Investigators said he was gunned down as he was walking on Lake Watch Drive in the Mainstreet Park area of Stone Mountain at about 11:15 p.m. Friday

"His house ain't but a step down the road. And he can't even come home?" Jackson said.

Investigators spent the day Saturday talking with potential witnesses who told officers they saw a dark Buick sedan drive slowly next to the victim before bullets rang out.

Police said at least two different calibers were used.

Jordan Richburg, 12, told Choi one of those bullets nearly killed him.

He said he was watching TV with his cousin when a bullet came right through his garage and hit a picture hanging on a wall.

"That's when that shattered. And then we was just like, crawled out and then went upstairs," Jordan said.

The bullet ended up in a closet.

"I feel very lucky that I'm here and I wasn't standing up right there. Could have gotten shot, but God let me see another day," Jordan said.

"At the height that my nephew was, I don't even want to … I can't even imagine," Jennifer Bowman said.

Family and friends told Choi they are still trying to figure out why anyone would want to hurt their loved one.

"He didn't have no beef with nobody. He just always kept calm," Vaughn's friend, Jennifer Poston, said.

Vaughn's loved ones said they have a message for the killers: "Whoever done this to him, please come forward. Ya'll know ya'll are going to jail for it anyway," Vaughn's friend Ian Anderson said.

Police are still looking for the gunmen and their dark Buick sedan.
