‘Giant' ticket yields $750K win for Griffin man

ATLANTA — One lucky Griffin man is excited over winning three-quarters of a million dollars from the Georgia Lottery. Darriel Driver won a $750,000 top prize playing the new instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks – Anniversary Edition.

“I played because it was a new ticket,” explained Driver, 51.

Georgia Lottery representatives presented the lucky winner with an oversized check Thursday at Spalding Beverage, 802 Everee Inn Road in Griffin, where the winning ticket was purchased.

“I was very excited,” Driver said.

A textile mill worker, Driver has two children and two stepchildren with his wife, Barbara.

“I’m going to buy a new house and new cars for myself and my wife,” he shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
