Student recovering 'miraculously' after bizarre accident

CALHOUN, Ga. — Channel 2's Brian Lazaro spoke with two students who witnessed an unusual accident that injured a Georgia high school student.

Sonoraville High School seniors say an accident seriously injured fellow senior Anna Mullinax.

At first, they didn't realize what was happening.

"I honestly didn't really think," one student said.

Students and staff discovered Mullinax had fallen from the top of a trailer onto the pavement while working on a school video highlighting the dangers of drunk driving.

"This is a very tight-knit community for us around Sonoraville. I mean, we always care about our own, we care about our family and she's definitely a part of that," one student said.

"She miraculously is doing wonderfully," Associate Principal Allen Bowen said.

The senior from Calhoun is part of the school's video production team and was working on an anti-drunk driving video before this weekend's prom.

These crashed cars were used during Tuesday's shoot.

School officials say Mullinax was on top of a trailer working on the video when she fell to the pavement.

"It was a terrible thing to happen but the perfect timing for that terrible thing to happen," Allen said.

What Allen meant was emergency responders were already on the scene -- they were part of the video shoot.

So was a medical helicopter like this one, from Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

"Since we had a helicopter there, they did airlift her to Erlanger," Allen said.

The hospital can't release details about her injuries, but a Gordon County school spokesperson told  Lazaro that Mullinax was getting released Wednesday and will recover at home.

School officials say Anna's a great student and is getting a lot of support and prayers from fellow students and the community.

"We're thankful for the community support and we're super thankful that she's gonna be coming home today and getting better and being back here with us," Allen said.
