WSB-TV Holds Weather Day At Turner Field

ATLANTA, Ga. —

Before the Atlanta Braves took the field against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday at Turner Field, WSB-TV's team of meteorologists stepped up to the plate. The group took part in Weather Day at the stadium.

Hundreds of students packed the seats down the third base line to hear from Karen Minton, David Chandley and Brad Nitz. WSB-TV's chief meteorologist Glenn Burns taped some segments that played on the scoreboard in the outfield.

The pregame event was held to teach the students a little bit about the weather, weather safety and the process of delivering weather information to viewers on television. The event included how a weather forecast is delivered, which included some behind-the-scenes footage from WSB-TV studios.

The presentation also featured an appearance by Atlanta Braves third base coach Brian Snitker. He explained some signs the Braves use in a game while helping Chandley demonstrate some weather forecasting techniques.

Here is some video from the event:

"It was a wonderful opportunity to combine baseball and meteorology," Chandley said.

"I had a great time with Braves third base coach Brian Snitker talking about signs and symbols," he said. "The response from the students was positive and they liked the behind the scenes video."

After the presentation and question and answer period, Chandley and Nitz signed autographs while Minton delivered the forecast from Turner Field for Channel 2 Action News at noon. Chandley and Nitz led the students onto the field for a pregame parade, too.

"It was a fun time at Turner Field explaining weather forecasting and weather safety," Nitz said.

"Then, we led the kids on a parade around the field, which was a thrill for all of us."
