ATHENS, Ga. —

A little more than two years after fire gutted the Georgia Theatre, the popular Athens music venue is open again.

Monday night marked the grand opening of the Georgia Theatre. The rebuilt version of the venue features five levels, including a rooftop bar.

Owners were forced to either rebuild or close for good in June of 2009 after a fire broke out in a dressing room and storage closet. The exact cause of that fire is undetermined.

Monday night was the culmination of the work done since then.

Over the years, bands like Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews, Hootie and the Blowfish, Sugarland, Jupiter Coyote, the Zac Brown Band, B-52s, John Mayer and thousands of others played at the Georgia Theatre.

As part of the grand opening, Big Boi, Chuck Leavell, Bela Fleck, and Drive-By Truckers are all set to take part. The official grand opening runs through August 14. Check out the Georgia Theatre's calendar to see all the acts taking part.
