2 dead in wreck on I-20 in Villa Rica

VILLA RICA, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol is investigating a crash in Carroll County on Interstate 20 at South Van Wert Road Bridge that has resulted in two fatalities and two injuries.

Two vehicles were involved in the initial crash and two other vehicles traveling westbound hit debris in the roadway, according to Georgia State Patrol.The two vehicles that hit debris were damaged.

Troopers were called to the crash around 7:35 p.m., and the initial investigation showed the tractor-trailer and a Cadillac SUV were traveling eastbound when the SUV struck the tractor-trailer and both vehicles crashed into the median.  Troopers said the tractor -trailer jackknifed, with the cab separating from the trailer. The cab then hit the bridge pillar to the South Van Wert Road Bridge and caught fire.

The two people in the cab of the truck died in the crash, and two people in the SUV were taken to Tanner Medical in Villa Rica with non-life threatening injuries.
