The Color Run visits Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. — What's blue and green and yellow all over? The thousands of people who participated in the Color Run over the weekend.

The Color Run is a 5-kilometer run where participants began the race in white shirts and shorts and end the race doused in color. Organizers bill the event as the happiest 5k on the planet.

"Just came out with friends, it's our first time doing it," participant Keeli Brendle told Nelson's News on wsbtv.com. "We're definitely going to do it next year."

The course at the Atlanta Motor Speedway featured a color station at each kilometer. Participants ventured through the stations as sprayers covered them with a different color. The coloring is similar to powdered sugar.

"You get together, you turn around, you laugh, you take a picture and you can't wait for the next color," participant Donna Bennett said.

The Color Run is touted as an event that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality and giving back to the community. Funds helped benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

And after runners crossed the finish line, there was more color and more fun.
