Church gives away 1,200 bookbags

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — A local church helped hundreds of students start the school year off right.

Dozens of people showed up at the third annual Book Bag Giveaway  in Stockbridge on Saturday.

The Greater New Hope Church gave away 1,200 free book bags filled with all kinds of school supplies.

Grammy Award-winning rapper Clifford “TI” Harris performed at the event.

“As often as I can I love participating in events that encourage education,” he said.

U.S. Rep. David Scott also attended the event, which also included food, haircuts and much more preparing kids for a brand new school year.

Several school districts go back to school Monday.

Kids in Cherokee, Bartow, Paulding, Lamar, Morgan, Spalding, Henry, Cobb and Decatur will all head back to the classroom tomorrow.
