Autopsy shows college student was murdered

VALDOSTA, Ga. — The death of a Valdosta State University student from Lawrenceville is being called a homicide.

Seventeen-year-old Jasmine Benjamin's body was found in Georgia Hall dormitory on the VSU campus Sunday.

The coroner had ruled out foul play, but an autopsy showed otherwise.

"Jasmine had a lot of friends which makes this a sad situation, but police are getting a lot of cooperation from the university and students," said police commander Brian Childress.

Police are interviewing several people to find leads.

Investigators are executing search warrants in connection with the girl's death, but Childress refused to reveal if there are any suspects, because it's an ongoing investigation.
