Atlanta Weather: Rain, Storms Expected Today

ATLANTA — Rain and thunderstorms will pop up throughout the day Monday.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the rain will stick around for a couple days. "We've got an area of high pressure off the east coast and one down toward the gulf and the two are working in combination to keep the moisture pouring in."

Around 1 p.m. Monday, areas throughout metro Atlanta will see showers and storms popping up.

"The most likely things you're going to see are heavy downpours, some lightning, some quarter-sized hail is possible, and strong, gusty winds," said Minton.

That will not be solid across the board, said Minton. The storms will be popping up and moving on.

By 11 p.m. Monday, most of the storms will be off to east Georgia.

More storms will pop up late Monday night and into the early morning hours Tuesday before fading out. The rain and storms will reappear around 12 p.m. Tuesday.

"This is going to be a typical pattern throughout this week," said Minton.
