At long last, free Wi-Fi is finally arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The lack of free wireless Internet access has been the top complaint at the world’s busiest airport for years.
Now, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and airport officials plan to celebrate the long-awaited arrival of the amenity at the airport Wednesday.
They hope it will address what interim airport manager Miguel Southwell has called a “competitive disadvantage” for Hartsfield-Jackson.
Travelers have complained about the issue on Twitter with comments such as: “Annoying that ATL airport doesn’t have free wifi” and “Had to pay $5 at the ATL airport to use the WiFi…… Ridiculous.”
The old system could handle only about 2,000 users at once, but with a just-completed infrastructure upgrade, airport officials expect as many as 15,000 can use the service at the same time.
