Former Boyfriend Of Missing Woman Charged With Stalking

Posted: 4:49 pm EST March 7, 2006Updated: 5:56 pm EST March 7, 2006

Gwinnett County Investigators have obtained two felony warrants against 36-year-old Billy Joe Cook of Snellville for Aggravated Stalking. These charges stem from violating a Temporary Protection Order taken against Cook by Leslie M. Adams before she disappeared.

Leslie Adams is a 40-year-old hairstylist that has been missing since October 24, 2005. Police discovered suspicious evidence at her Lilburn apartment after a family member said they had not heard from her. The last known contact with Adams had been three days before, when she spoke to her mother and brother on the phone. Police say they do suspect foul play.

During the course of the investigation into Adams’ disappearance, investigators discovered Adams had been granted a Temporary Protection Order against Cook. Cook has cooperated with authorities and has consented to be interviewed several times. Investigators obtained information that Cook had in fact contacted Adams after being served the protection order by calling her two times. Police say his being charged does not mean he threatened her in those phone calls, just that he contacted her at all.

Cook has contacted authorities and has told them he will turn himself in later this week.

At this time, investigators are not listing any suspects in the disappearance of Adams.
