Condo Fire Kills 2 Girls

Still No Cause For Blaze

Authorities on Sunday released the names of two little girls killed in a fire at a Cobb County condominium complex. Firefighters say Saturday's two-alarm blaze started after a teenage babysitter left food on the stove.

Alayjiah Harvell and Delores Brown, both 6, died in the fire. Delores lived in the unit where the fire started, authorities said. Alayjiah, her friend, was visiting.

Firefighters were called to the Ashborough Village condominium complex near the intersection of Delk Road and U.S. 41 at 2:42 p.m. Saturday. It took more than 30 firefighters from the Cobb County and Marietta Fire Departments two hours to bring the blaze under control.

High winds shifted the flames -- which could be seen from I-75 in Atlanta -- several times, causing firefighters to briefly retreat.

No one else was hurt. Cobb County police Cpl. Wayne Delk says the fire appears accidental, and no charges will be filed.
