High Winds Topple Trees, Power Lines

Posted: 1:56 pm EST January 14, 2006Updated: 8:04 am EST January 15, 2006

Hold onto your hat!

Winds as strong as 40 mph ripped across north Georgia Saturday.

A high pressure area that moved into the state after yesterday's rain generated winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 40.

There were reports of trees and power lines down across the area. A falling tree crashed through the roof of an apartment building on Haynes Bridge Road in north Fulton County.

Georgia Power reported scattered power outages, but NO major blackouts.

The same weather system brought snow to parts of the north Georgia mountains. Suches, Blairsville and Hiawasee all reported light dustings of snow.

Sunday should be milder.
