A worker who fell about 35 feet while painting the inside of water tower in northeast Georgia has been rescued from the tank.

Rescue crews battled high winds in Jackson County to pull the man out and lower him more than 150 feet to the ground on a stretcher. They say he is conscious and alert.

The man was airlifted to Grady hospital complaining of hip and abdominal pain. He is currently listed in fair condition.

Jefferson Police Chief Darren Glenn said the tank has been closed for some time and was empty when the man fell about 35 feet into the tank.
