Slain Carjacking Victim Mourned

Woman Survived by Husband, Three Children

Posted: 4:41 am EDT September 16, 2005

Family and friends will say goodbye Friday to the Cobb County woman who was killed earlier this week during a violent carjacking in which her assailant was also killed.

The funeral for Kimberly Boyd, 30, was scheduled to be held at noon Friday at NorthStar Baptist Church on Blue Springs Road in Kennesaw.

Hundreds of her relatives and acquaintances gathered Thursday at a wake to honor the woman.

"My wife, who was her sister and best friend, is not doing well," said Scott Ryder, the woman's brother-in-law.

Police have said that Boyd was kidnapped at gunpoint Monday morning by a man identified as Brian O'Neil Clark. The 25-year-old suspect had been convicted in the past of child molestation and statutory rape.

She died when Clark, who was driving Boyd's sport utility vehicle, turned into the path of a cement truck, causing a collision.

Investigators also say Boyd had been shot as she struggled with her abductor. The coroner did not detail the extent of her wound, but police believe she was alive when the cement truck hit her Toyota Sequoia.

As Clark was fleeing that accident, he was shot dead by motorist Shawn Roberts, who had seen Boyd and Clark struggling and followed them.

"The gentleman who took care of the assailant is a hero," said Ken Brown, a neighbor of the victim. "I also think Kim Boyd is a hero."

The woman is survived by a husband and three kids.

Said Ryder: "This isn't going to be easy. They're going to have to grow up without a mother."

An educational trust fund for the woman's children has been established. Those who want to donate to the Kimberly Boyd Educational Fund can go to any Bank of America branch and deposit money to the account No. 003340823528.
